This is a joint report by the Scientific Advisory Committee on
Nutrition (SACN) and the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child
Health (RCPCH). It has been issued following a consultation
exercise undertaken earlier in the year. It concludes that WHO
Growth Standards should be applied to children aged from 2 weeks to
24 months. These standards are based on the expected growth rate
of breast fed infants. They should replace existing growth
standards based on observed growth rates of children in the
population, which include infants not exclusively breast fed.
