Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital currently houses the Trust's
Gynaecology, Obstetric and Neonatal services. In addition to
inpatient services, it runs a wide range of clinics, including
General and Specialist Gynaecology, an Antenatal Clinic, Ultrasound
and Fetal Medicine. Neonatal follow-up clinics are in the
Childrens' Out Patient Department in the UCH building.
The Neonatal Unit runs as a Level 3 Unit. This
means that care is provided for babies born at less than 27 weeks
and for babies who are seriously ill.
It has 2 intensive care and 4 special care nurseries, with 11
intensive care cots and 15 high dependency/ special care cots.
The Neonatal Unit has 8 Neonatal Consultants, one of whom,
Dr.Jane Hawdon, is the Lead Clinician for the Network.
The hospital has a large skilled nursing team and included in
that team are 4 ANNP's and a Nurse Consultant, Frances Greenall.
The Lead Nurse for the unit is Sue Beatson.
It is planned that the EGA will move to a new site in 2008. A
new multi-million state of the art hospital has been built on
Euston Road to replace University College and The Middlesex
Hospitals. This hospital was completed and opened in 2005.
With the main hospital building complete, a new purpose built
women's hospital, the EGA Wing, housing women's' services will be
built by 2008. With shared access to all the facilities of the
main hospital, the new EGA Wing will be a new centre of excellence
for women's healthcare.
