Newham General Hospital runs as a Level 2 Neonatal Unit. This means that care is provided for babies born between 27 and 34 weeks, and for babies born with a serious illness.

The Unit has 21 cots; 4 of these cots are designated for High Dependency /short term Intensive Care. The Unit is adjacent to the delivery suite and consists of 6 rooms.
One large room in the middle is used for Intensive and High Dependency babies, and several large and smaller rooms for the Special Care of babies in incubators and cots.

There is a Transitional Care Ward for mothers and well babies who need extra care and/or observation. A room for parents to enjoy some privacy with their babies and a sitting room for parents and families are also available.

The Unit has a dedicated compliment of both Nursing and Medical staff, and provides services in counselling and support.

VISITING
Parents and baby's siblings are welcome to visit the Neonatal Unit.
Other visitors may visit but must be accompanied by one of the babies parents.
2 visitors only at the baby's cot or incubator at any one time.

However, we only allow parents to visit the Intensive Care/High Dependency room and allow parents only to hold their babies.

Parents only may visit after 8pm, except in extreme circumstances.

FACILITIES
