NEONATAL
UNIT
The Chelsea & Westminster
Hospital runs as a Level 3 Unit. This means that care is provided
for babies born at less than 27 weeks and for babies who are
seriously ill.
Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is in high demand and has
27 cots providing Intensive Care, High Dependency and Special Care
facilities. The Unit looks after approximately 500 babies a year,
many born in this hospital and others brought here from all over
London and the South East of England.
The Unit is also a specialist referral centre for Neonatal
Surgery. It is one of the 2 lead perinatal centres within the
North West London Perinatal Network.
We have a compliment of 5 Neonatologists working on the Unit,
together with 1 academic Neonatologist. We work closely with our
team of 4 Paediatric Surgeons and Gastroenterologists to provide a
complete perinatal service. We provide a neonatal community follow
up service in partnership with the Paediatric Community Nursing
Teams.
Our strong links with the Maternity Service reflect our aim to
ensure that mothers and babies are looked after together wherever
possible.
