THE UNIT
West Middlesex University Hospital’s runs as a Special Care Unit (SCU). SCUs provide special care for their own local population. Depending on arrangements within their neonatal network, they may also provide some high dependency services. In addition, SCUs provide a stabilisation facility for babies who need to be transferred to a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for intensive or high dependency care, and they also receive transfers from other network units for continuing special care.
Our aim is to provide a high quality family centred service to our patients and their families closer to home.
Within the Special Care Baby Unit there are 16 cots in total; 1 short term intensive care cot , 3 High Dependency cots and 12 special care cots.
The unit also has the facilities to look after up to 4 babies on Nasal CPAP ventilation (High Dependency level care) if needed.
The unit is supported by Paediatric /Neonatal Consultants, Speech therapists, Physiotherapists, Dietician and Social Worker, to ensure your baby is receiving the best possible care.
