Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital currently houses the Trust's Gynaecology, Obstetric and Neonatal services. In addition to inpatient services, it runs a wide range of clinics, including General and Specialist Gynaecology, an Antenatal Clinic, Ultrasound and Fetal Medicine. Neonatal follow-up clinics are in the Childrens' Out Patient Department in the UCH building.
The Neonatal Unit runs as a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). NICUs are sited alongside specialist obstetric and feto-maternal medicine services, and provide the whole range of medical neonatal care for their local population, along with additional care for babies and their families referred from the neonatal network.
The Unit has 17 Neonatal Intensive Care cots (an increase of three cots) and 15 Special Care cots in light and spacious surroundings designed to promote emotional as well as physical well-being. In addition, the neonatal team continues to provide the Transitional Care Service, allowing babies to remain with their mothers if Special Care is required after birth, supported by the multidisciplinary team.
Three en-suite bedrooms are available for the support of families who have babies who are unwell.
The Neonatal Unit has 8 Neonatal Consultants, one of whom, Dr Jane Hawdon, is the Lead Clinician for the Network. The hospital has a large skilled nursing team and included in that team are 4 ANNP's and a Nurse Consultant, Frances Greenall. The Lead Nurse for the unit is Sue Beatson.
