The Network consists of 7 hospitals in North East London working together to ensure that mothers and babies are cared for in the right place, at the right time and by appropriately trained staff.
The Royal London Hospital and Homerton Hospital are the Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs). Newham General Hospital, Whipps Cross Hospital, North Middlesex Hospital and Queens Hospital are Local Neonatal Units (LNUs) and King Georges Hospital is a Special Care Unit (SCU). For a definition of the levels of care please see the General Parent Information pages of this website.
Over the last 2 years the Network has opened 6 new neonatal cots and plans to open more in the future. This is to make sure that all babies born in North East London can be cared for within the Network and mothers and babies do not have to travel far from home. In 2008, 92.8% of babies were cared for within Network.
The Network aims to deliver a single Neonatal service across North East London. For parents this means that there will be a consistency in the way that services are provided and the information you are given. Staff on the all units will share clinical guidelines and visit each others hospitals to carry out joint ward rounds. We also share information about babies if they are moved between hospitals using a common computerised data system known as SEND.
