The Acute Neonatal Transfer Service (ANTS) is the regional transfer service for the East of England based in the Rosie Hospital on the Addenbrooke's Hospital campus site in Cambridge.
We specialise in providing emergency transfers for acutely sick newborn babies requiring specilist care within the East of England
There are three types of transfer we carry out:
- Emergency transfers for very sick babies that require a more specialist treatment at another hospital
- Elective or back transfers to transport recovering babies back to the hospital nearest their homes
- Specialist outpatient appointments that last up to one hour
There are two types of transfer teams:
- A dual clinician/emergency team will consist of one Specialist Registrar or a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, one Specialist Neonatal Nurse and Ambulance Driver
- A single clinician/elective team will consist of one Specialist Neonatal Nurse and Ambulance Driver
Our service operates a daily emergency service covering the full 24 hour period plus an elective service from 8am to 6pm on weekdays
In 2010 ANTS received 1412 transfer referrals. 1074 were completed of which 581 were completed by dual clinician teams and 493 were completed by single clinician teams
The Ambulance element of the service is provided by the East of England Ambulance Service Trust
